The bike was originally conceived as a derailleur analogue to my '99 fixie
gofast, so I did use a ti Phil bb, light rims, and even (blush) a ti stem
binder bolt (no longer; I replaced the original stem with a Pearl that is
too long for said ti bolt). And of course there is the Flite, but that is
chosen for comfort. When it was built up as a 1X10, it weighed about 19 1/2
lb with Speedplay X-2s, cages, but no bag or pump; the otherwise almost
identical gofast fixie is 17 1/2 lb.

Beside those things, there is not much in the way of mere weight-saving
gear. The frame and fork and headset weigh a good 7 lb, so the frameset
isn't exactly lightweight. Most of the savings come from the wheels -- 559
wheels are simply lighter than 622 wheels, and the rims, while quite
strong, are very narrow and weigh in at about 370 grams each. Even the wire
bead Kojaks weigh just 400 grams. And of course the fixed drivetrain saves
a couple of lbs or so.

My Ram in contrast weighs IIRC about 3 or 3 1/2 lb more; clearly the
drivetrain adds weight but the wheels are also noticeably heavier despite
the slightly (~300 gram) lighter tires.
