I'm with Hugh here. Getting a Rivendell bike makes a huge difference in feel, ride, and the pleasure of riding. She ay fall away from bikepacking, but still bike. Why not give the grand experiment the best possible chance of success, presuming your budget can do it if you choose for it to?
