I've been riding Grip Kings and Thin Gripsters for several years now using five.ten Impact <http://fiveten.com/products/footwear-detail/13874-impact-low-team-black> shoes. The charm is the sole, which has a very high coefficient of sliding friction; this translates to great foot retention on the pedal, in all weather. The five.ten people also sell sheets of this sole material, for retrofits and custom applications. I've also had good luck with New Balance Minimus MX20BR cross-training shoes; I wear these in the summer: they're light, cool, and grippy.
