Both my mother and father are Filipino and we also had a supply of canned 
sardines growing up and I've always enjoyed them. I keep a stash now.

FWIW, I've come to really enjoy the sardines in olive oil from Wild Planet

They're a bit more than Trader Joe's but they're also quite a bit tastier.
