What type of trails are you riding?  An awful lot of trail and  
"mountain biking" can be done on standard road bikes:

Rock gardens  and 10' dropoffs maybe not, but with suitable gearing  
and moderately fat tires most anything else can be ridden on a road  
bike.  And certainly on a AHH.  I don't know about you, but 35 years  
ago when I was a kid we rode whatever bikes we had on trails and in  
the woods.  3 speeds, Stingrays, ten speeds (back when they were ten  
speeds), Schwinn Typhoons, BMA/6 POSes, etc.
