I have to confess that I can't warm up to the double top tube on the
Bombadil. I have a Hilsen and it's a lovely, comfortable bike, but I
want something that I can do some trail and mountain biking on. I
have been seriously considering the Fargo. It's not a surprise to me
that Rivish folks wouldn't find the design appealing, but I see the
Fargo as a very Rivish spin on the all rounder mountain bike. The
Fargo has been ridden to completion on the Great Divide race and on
tour cross country. I am curious to try out mechanical disc brakes,
which from my limited understanding are pretty robust. Salsa is also
coming out with some off road oriented drop bars, called Woodchippers,
which also are Rivish in their concept and design. No design is
really perfect for everyone, but I think that the Fargo takes a
utilitarian approach to the mountain/touring/road bike from a slightly
different point of view. As my accountant says, there's no accounting
for taste.
