Years back I rode my bike through a field of goatheads at Brannan Island State Park in the California Delta. No point in pulling the little buggers (100's!). Just took off the tires & tubes and threw them away. Cheaper to replace than to use many dozen patch kits! Not to mention hours of my time. Cheers.
