There is so much truth to this. I'm working on a project bike, trying to
find that "just right" combination of characteristics that can inform an
investment in a really high quality frameset. Right now I've got a bike
that is just a thrill to ride. Absolutely perfect for me in almost every
way! However, it's a 53.5cm frame and I'm just shy of six foot tall so
I've got a huge amount of stem that is topped by a high rise handlebar. No
matter how good the bike rides.....the minute I get off I sort of cringe at
the way at looks. And looks ARE important for things we are passionate
about.

At this point I'm headed toward either a 26" Surly LHT, a Co-Motion Pangea
or a Rodriguez UTB. The Atlatnis was my first choice but I don't think
it's stout enough for me. I weigh 400 lbs and I'm pretty strong so I get
ghost shifting like crazy, even pedaling hard while sitting down. And the
Atlantis has toothpicks for stays compared to the others (the LHT is
questionable..don't know how thick those stays are). The Pangea and UTB
literally have tandem stays and they are HUGE! Probably perfect for me.
