Beeswax most definitely helps. I have also found that the Microshift front derailer and the silver shifters make a bad combination for this, as the spring that tensions that particular FD is incredibly strong, which puts a lot more stress on the shifter. Just my experience, I am not a mechanic and don't have scientific evidence to back it up.
