Like I'm an expert in riding in the rain because we get as much as (hold
yer breath) 5" a year!!! 9" average ABQ-wide, ranging from 14" near
foothills to said 5" at west mesa.

But it comes down all at once -- last nights downpour closed roads and last
month we had flooding in underpasses with police rescuing drivers in
flooded cars.

Main point and thesis: Ponchos work great, if you ride in rain in warm
weather. Even the cheap ($30) Campmore poncho kept me dry from neck to knee
in a huge gale with rain coming down so fast it flooded my access road 2'
deep. You just have to dump the lake that forms in the depression between
forearm and bar every 1/2 mile or so.

The Campmore poncho has a hood, btw, but no hood will keep you dry when
riding into gale-blown horizontal rain.

I've owned several types including the Ducksback; that was very effective
but too damned warm -- I sweated. The nylon Carradice wasn't voluminous
enough for drop bars. The Campmore is the best of the 3, for me, though I'd
improve things if I had to use it more often than 5 times a year.
