I've been riding the 650 x 38b Lierre tires for a little over a year. They
ride wonderfully--fast and comfortable!

I've ridden mostly pavement, on trails and commuting, but have ridden a lot
more gravel since this spring.

I've had 2 puncture flats in that time, which isn't bad considering I ride
on city streets a lot. The sidewalls are getting grimy and there are some
loose threads in a couple spots. I'm gonna stick those threads down with
some krazy glue, but it's obvious that the sidewalls on the Grand Bois
tires are not as tough as a Schwalbe.

I believe you'll feel 95% of the wonderful-ness of the lightweight
Compass/Grand Bois tires in the standard casing. I'd appreciate the
ever-so-slightly thicker casing compared to the EL tires. The standard
casing seems pretty light already.

Jan said he made improvements from the Grand Bois tires in the new Compass
tires, so they seem like a better value for the same price.

However, if you're going 38 mm wide instead of 42 mm wide, the Lierre has a
bit more tread than the Loup Loup Pass.

That said, the tread of the Babyshoe Pass and Loup Loup pass should be
fine; I have Cerf tires on my gofast that have basically the same tread and
they're great.
