It is a fine line regarding assumptions on posted ads.  

However, I don't think anyone in this thread claimed them to be stolen. 
 This list is a way to communicate with a broadly dispersed segment (and I 
emphasize "segment") of Rivendell owners and enthusiasts.  Other than my 
own, there are probably 20-25 Rivs I could attribute to a specific person, 
given how many images I've seen of them over the years. 

It was in that spirit that I added to this thread:  "It may be nothing, but 
this looks a little odd."

Getting the word out might help recover someone's bicycle.  

Just because someone isn't on this list, or just because they post a for 
sale ad on CL or eBay doesn't mean the bicycle in question was stolen.  And 
I do feel it is inappropriate to assume that it might be. 

IME, really nice bikes priced low are more likely to be scams and/or "of 
dubious lineage".  

As with Peter, I received a reply to my questions with contact info, and 
the ad was updated after I did so.
