So, according to the chart, "531 Competition" had the lightest

That's true. However, the chart we're speaking of didn't list all the
varieties of 531 there ever were. I recall seeing a photo of a French
constructeur bike, something made for the Technical Trials, pretty sure
it too was 531, and that had tubing with .3mm wall thickness between the
butts. Here's what's listed in the Wikipedia article:
* *531 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reynolds_531>* -
Manganese/Molybdenum. UTS: 700-900 MPa (48-58 Tsi, 100-130 ksi
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pounds_per_square_inch#ksi>)
o *531ATB* - Designed for Mountain, All terrain, Off road
o *531C* - Competition Racing tubeset. Road racing, track, time
trial and cyclo-cross.
o *531CS* - Club Sport Double butted main tubes
o *531Magnum* - Same use as ATB
o *531OS* - Oversize tubeset
o *531 Professional* - Superseded 531SL, for road racing and time
trials. Comprises 531 lightweight main tubes and 753R rear
stays. Early versions used 753T rear stays.
o *531SL* - Special lightweight (SL) tubeset, comprising 531 main
tubes drawn thinner than standard 531, and stiff 531 rear stays
o *531 Speed Stream* - 531SL Oval shaped aerodynamic tube
o *531ST* - Special Touring tubeset^[6]
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reynolds_Cycle_Technology#cite_note-6>
o *531 Super Tourist* - Superseded ST.
o *531DS* Designer select tubing, typically an oversize down tube
and seat tube for larger frames, tubing from the mtb tubeset.
I'm pretty sure 531SL/Professional had thinner walls than 531C. As for
Designer Select, that may be "typically" what it was, but it wasn't
always that. My George Longstaff's got a 531 Designer Select decal on
it, and it's all standard diameter tubing, with thinner walls on the top
tube (7/[4 or 5]/7) than 531C and 753 stays.
