Ultimately I found this a trial and error process. I started with a B-17 and it was reasonably comfortable for under 50 mile rides. Unbearably painful over that "trip wire" distance. I found the Terry Liberator Y to be the most comfortable all day saddle and have it on most of my bikes (its even more comfortable than the more expensive "fly" version). Recently I bought a single speed bike for around town errands and it came with an "aged" B-17 saddle which is amazingly comfortable. It comes with tethered lacing which actually changes the geometry in a very subtle way. But the difference for me makes a world of difference! All I can say is you really don't know until it passes the "ride it all day, for 3 days test". I tried about 18 different saddles. Final word, thank god for e-bay!
