Hi guys,

Andy, i've seen the NPS updates but it seems to be more about closings of
camp-sites, dock ramps etc. I wanted to get a sense of the actual towpath
conditions, how rutted it is, how muddy. i know we are getting some rain
tomorrow, i just want to avoid a super muddy mess.

Ginz, there aren't really 'bail-out' options that run along the trail.
you do have a few points where you can detour, for example if you get to
whites ferry and decide you want to bail you could detour to leesburg and
take the W&OD back. But personally i would not set out for a trip if there
is a forecast of multi-day rain (unless it was part of a multi-day trip
that can't be cancelled). the trail gets muddy, and some of the camp-sites
can also get soggy.

Tom has pointed out to me that this would make a good mini-rally because
there are a decent number of RBW folks in the area and enough variety that
some people can do just a S24O and others can do a S48O or S72O if they
want to keep going. If there are local people that are interested in doing
a loosely organized group S240, please send me an email and i'll setup a
separate thread to discuss.

For those that are interested, this guy here does a multi-day trip on the
C&O and GAP

I've not done it myself but he seems to be pretty well organized.
