Well there is a point! For the Simplex afficianado, it is somewhat easier to find clamp on shifters with the sunburst design than braze- on. The collectors who have scarfed up the sunburst braze on shifters are very reluctant to give them up. And to be clear, I am not trying to be negative at all.
