City riding won't "dry it out" any faster than riding in rural Arcadias or in suburban mazes. I haven't looked at my bbs since they were installed, what, in one case 9500 miles ago and, in t'other, 5500 miles ago -- they're phils, but I expect good cup and cones would fare the same -- and they're as smooth as the day there were installed. Of course, we don't get much rain in Albuquerque. And yes, tork your cups or lockrings down, it won't hurt a thing and they won't loosen up. One of the nicest bb assemblies I ever owned and installed was an old cup 'n' cone Dura Ace 113 that I got 2nd-3d-4th hand and installed on a (heavy, old, flexy) Raleigh Technium sport tourer (loooong stays) fixed gear conversion. It set up as easily as a cartridge, almost, and was as smooth as the Phils. I stupidly sold it with the Raleigh. -- Patrick Moore Albuquerque, NM Professional Resumes.
