Alba bars and drops are just so different in the way you ride.... how
it "was" with drops really doesn't matter, except you know it was too
long, yes? So, the Alba bars are a good choice to try. I would start
with the same stem. For what it's worth, I don't think the curve of
my Alba bars even reaches the point where the brake levers were on my
drop bars. If she or you are not sure of the length.... and in all
honesty who is until you try it out..... try to beg, borrow or steal a
few lengths you may want. For maximum versatility with the Alba bars,
I set them up using thumbshifters, mounted just inside the front
curve, at the point where it's un-usable for hands.(If you place your
hands on top of the curves, you get the idea where it becomes to
curved inward to be used for hands). Instead of MTB brake levers,
which rob bar space, I used time trial revers brake levers (Tektro RX
4.1) in the bar ends. This gives you essentially more than 305mm of
open bar space to find your spot(s). The is unheard of versatility in
any bar I've ever known.

-cheers, Garth
