absolutely agree. but, you've already alluded to the cognitive
dissonance surrounding the strada bianca - i'd argue that if a strada
bianca is not utilizing all of its capability as a country bike (i.e.
fitting fat tires, sporting fenders and carrying a load of sorts),
then it is not a country bike. i maintain that a compact double and
28s would do just fine on rouge-roubaix - thus, my contrary opinion to
the title of this thread.

but, if we agree that the strada bianca is a country-bike. *period.*

well, then my friend's IF Ti Club Racer is every bit the country bike
that my other friend's AHH is. we ride the same dirt roads, carry the
same loads, we all have fenders, etc. and there are many, many other
"country bikes" out there that we've just been . ... well, not
recognizing as country bikes.

so the riders not inside of the 7-11 should resign themselves to the
fact that they are destined to be losers and disregard any competitive
advantage because they're pack fodder?

i disagree. i'm with nietzsche on this one - losing and suffering
aren't necessarily bad things, especially in competition.
