nobody likes a flat tire, but you might be overthinking the whole flat- resistance thing.
sure, the marathons are bomber and a great choice for serious touring or commuting regularly where you know there will be glass and other debris that can cause punctures. but, for the kind of riding you described, some might consider them overkill.
