The panniers are great. I bought them for about fifty dollars on eBay, and I know now they sell for much less but I don't mind, they are more than worth it to me. They work very well, and hold enough for most day trips to the market or in bad weather when you need a sizable change of clothes including a jacket, etc. They aren't as big as you may think, while they do fit quite a lot, if you need to strap the vinyl covering on you have to be weary of how heavily you back the canvas bags underneath. I've rode with them in the rain and they performed very well, and they go with the look of a Rivendell, or Rivendell inspired bike, perfectly.
As for the total cost of my bike, I've never really quite added it up. But I suppose the major pricey items could be listed to give you an idea. • Nitto Noodle Handlebars. - $65.00 • Shellac, brushes, bar tape, twine, and corks. - $20.00 • "Resurrectio" Decals - $10.00 • SKS Edge Fenders - $37.00 • "Ruffy Tuffy" 32x700C Tires and Tubes - $46.00 • Silver Sidepull Brakes - $82.00 • Brooks B.17 Champion Special Edition - $110.00 • Shimano 600 Brake Levers and Hoods - $25.00 The above, all from Rivendell, adds up to $395.00, which is great considering I now have really high quality parts on some essential areas of my bike suck as the brakes, tires, saddle, handlebars, etc. The only thing I didn't price is the wheels, which were some cheapies I bought from REI and will eventually replace with something from Velocity. The stem, seat post, bottom bracket, and pedals are all original and came with the frame, which I got for free. Not counting the two Nigel Smythe bags I have (Country and Banana), if you add in the $80.00 for painting the frame, and some random amount (say, $70.00 for both wheels), then the total I've spent on this bike is $545.00, which isn't too bad! If you checkout my Flickr, I took some more closeups and changed out my rack and panniers for the country bag. I also rotated by handlebars, but after I took the photos :P --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
