This is interesting. Why do you say that friction shifting and
cassettes don't mix? When I last used friction shifting, I was running
Simplex dt shifters with shimano 9 cassette. Never had any problem
shifting.

Further, what I really like about cassette hubs is you never had to
worry about axles breaking. I broke at least 3 axles on my C-Record
freewheel hub before going to cassette hub. I especially like Shimano
rear hubs with its outboard bearings. Phil makes good hubs, but its
