I don't think anyone is making far-reaching statements about the type of
_people_ buying the stuff.  That has shown up on other lists, but not this
one (and that kind of commentary has no place here). And, again, I thank all
of you for that.

The topic (which is admittedly pretty "on the edge" of this list focus) was
really more wonderment as to why Shimano sees this as an advancement.

Good designs should be reasonably timeless, IMO. One of the strongest
statements that appeared on and off in RBW catalogs was something along the
lines of not being retro, but instead favoring technology that was proven,
and arguable refined.

I like the idea of refined, simple systems.
