There are 2 arguments here:

1. development is good, it progresses the activity and technology.

2. development which is pretty much pure marketing gimmick does
nothing but create another peg on the over-consumption ladder.

Considering how little cycling technology has actually changed in the
last 30 yrs, I'm a bit unconvinced that  #1 is what's happening here.

If you want to see how little there is new under the sun - look at the
latest BQ about brakes.
