Well, I'm glad to hear there is still good riding in NYC. I grew up there, and my wife (then girlfriend) used to ride from our apt near Yankee Stadium down to Central Park. That seemed doable in the late 60's. Or was I just nuts? I was down in the city a couple of years ago and enjoyed a nice walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and along the park in Brooklyn. Lots of bikes out that day, of all varieties, enjoying themselves.
I was however amazed at how many bike were out on the streets of Manhattan at night without so much as a reflector on their bikes. Gave me the willies to watch them. I guess we all have different tolerances. My daughter lived in DC for 10 years and rode a lot in the city. I never thought of her as a daredevil but she made me look cowardly as she skirted by busses. My son, on the other hand, whom I think of as almost reckless, claims that SF is a a terrible city for riding, and typically drives out of town when he wants to ride for pleasure, although he sometimes bike commutes from his home in Outer Sunset to Berkley Livermore Labs, where he is employed (but ususllly telecommutes). Strange because NY and Washington feel intimidating to me, but SF does not. Michael Dodging snowplows in Westford, Vt On Dec 24, 9:23 pm, Will <wpm...@gmail.com> wrote: > Happy holidays everyone.
