Probably.  I do recall, they were trying to index with derailleurs and
freewheels that weren't designed for it, and going by what I was reading
at the time, it wasn't at all successful.

I guess it must be the good stuff came in with Ergo.  How many speeds
was that?  I really stopped following Campagnolo back in the 1970s, and
it was only a fluke that led me to the Campagnolo Racing T front
derailleur, which I have to say again is by far the best front
derailleur I have ever tried for Riv/iBOB style compact triple gearing.
Amazing performance, and from a company with no demonstrated interest in
that sort of gearing at all, ever.
