I had my Surly CrossCheck set up as a 1x8 for a couple of years, through daily commuting, trailer/trail-a-bike pulling and two cyclocross seasons. I liked the setup a lot, never had a chaindrop problem (outside of cyclocross), and never felt like the gearing was inadequate. I used a 42t ring and a 12-28 cassette. That bike is currently a 3-cog singlespeed, but if/when i want to shift it again it'll be a 1x8 just like before. -- Bill Connell St. Paul, MN --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
