Color me skeptical.

This notion that an Atlantis can't handle a front load is incorrect,
based on my experience. My Atlantis handles better (to me) with a
heavy front load than it does with a heavy rear load. It's probably
not optimized for heavy front loads, but then a low trail bike isn't
generally optimized for riding unloaded, or for carrying weight
rearward. I think what's often missed is that here's a wide gulf
between "not optimal" and "not acceptable". When I post pictures of my
front-loaded Atlantis on Flickr, invariably some theoretician comments
that the geometry is wrong for front loads. Funny, I never noticed.
Seems fine to me.

Likewise, my old Stumpjumper has, I think, a 67 or 68 degree headtube.
It's also been converted from 559 to 584 wheels. This is the epitome
of high trail, yet I put a big Wald basket on it (zip-tied to an old
front rack), and fill that with probably 10-20 lbs of assorted
treasures. I ride it no-handed without a thought.

Of course it's possible that I'm just uncommonly talented at riding
these unwieldy machines.
