Sure, I'm happy if we want to use that. I don't want to set accidentally set 
expectations for other projects though, since it's much easier for us to make 
and host alternative styles than it is for volunteer groups to do the same.

Fair point, I'll remove that from the list. I was thinking of keys hosted 
externally (like on OpenCycleMap) but it's mostly applicable to keys hosted 
here.

I'm don't think that's feasible really. That would imply that every map layer 
is provided in two variations, plus also two different filter approaches, plus 
some way to choose between them all. I think that's unrealistic.
