Dear Max, That fixes the issue completely on Travis — thanks. However, it worries me a little that I might need something similar for the build on CRAN? Or should I simply just assume that this is an issue specific to Travis?

On my local machine with: R version 3.6.0 (2019-04-26) Platform: x86_64-apple-darwin15.6.0 (64-bit) Running under: macOS Mojave 10.14.3 …my package passes R CMD check. However, on Travis CI I get * installing *source* package ‘mfbvar’ ... ** using staged installation ERROR: 'configure' exists but is not executable -- see the 'R Installation and Administration Manual' This despite the configure file being executable locally. Some of my attempts at fixing this include: - chmod +x configure - removing configure, committing/pushing, putting configure back and chmod +x configure before committing/pushing again to ensure the executable version is pushed - creating a new configure from configure.ac using autoconf All of my attempts have been unsuccessful and I’m a little bit puzzled why it doesn’t work on Travis. Does anyone have any suggestions? The failure is present both on Linux and OS X. I am not sure whether the issue is specific to Travis, but I have no other ways of testing it before submitting to CRAN.
