But it can! And it's actually very useful to use use SMTP instead of local queueing, if you put qpsmtpd as a spam and virus catcher in front of a proprietary mail server. (Though I've changed that setup to use qmail in between, because I wanted another queue when the proprietary mail server started to crash regularly.)
