What is 64.42.88.20 - is that your Qmail-Scanner server? Or is that

right, sorry i should have made that clear.
I'm going to assume it is the Q-S server, in which case what could
be happening is that your AV/SA components are taking too long to
finish processing that 5M message (too long normally means >20
minutes) and so the SMTP client drops the connection and retries.
However, some minutes later the AV/whatever finishes processing the
first one and delivers it - but by then there's another attempt
happening, etc, etc.
that sounds plausible. recently we've been hit by some pretty large
waves of collateral spam, and it wouldn't surprise me if chewing
through the large backlogs caused a large message - going out to
about 15 people - to get clogged in the works for a good long time.
There are some checks to stop that happening, so ensure you are
running Q-S 1.25 and check the qmail-queue.log file to find out
where exactly all the delay is occurring.
Then fix that.
as it turns out, i was still running 1.24, doh! i've upgraded to 1.25
(in reality, 1.25st - hope you don't mind)
thanks for your help!
