first of all i think this is a bit offtopic.
i suggest you not to have more than one MX record for your domains.
smtp is not a 'real-time' service, like web, so if your server goes
down for an hour or two you wont miss any mail, and for your useres is
the same, that the mail pending in your second MX's queue or the in
the sender smtp queue, they will not able to get them.
email may not be real-time, but for a great many businesses it is
*more* important than their website. there's nothing wrong with
having multiple MX servers, and in a properly designed system, it
increases availabilty appropriately. what happens when you need to do
maintenance on your MX? tell your customers they'll start getting
mail in an hour or two? not acceptable under many circumstances.
i run three MXes, and using smtproutes, they all feed to an
antispam/antivirus proxy, and from there to the pop/imap/webmail
server. if i need to do maintenance on one of the MXes, there's no
interruption in service. if i need to do maintenance on the proxy, i
just change the smtproutes on the MXes to go directly to the
pop/imap/webmail server (and in fact i have cron jobs that will
bypass the the proxy automatically if it is non-responsive or the
backlog is extreme)(and of course page me to let me know!)
it's a choice. i can run a non-redundant configuration, and be
prepared to be deluged with customer complaints when their mail isn't
coming in. or i can run a redundant configuration, and never hear
from my customers except when they accidentally format their
harddrive and can't remember how to reconfigure their account.
i prefer the latter.
