I've found a few questions regarding this problem in the mailing list archives, but not really any answers.
When I installed qmail-scanner 1.25, I used the "--notify admin" setting. I want all virii detected to be reported to my admin address, but not to the users. When I run test_installation.sh, only the first and fourth emails are received by the admin address. The second and third, the eicar emails, are quarantined correctly, but there is no notification to the admin address. If I change the notify setting to "--notify admin,recips", then four emails are received by the admin address, the second and third being virus quarantine notifications. However, I don't want all the recipients of viruses to receive notifications, so this isn't a fix for me. It seems to me that if the admin address is also the recipient of a virus-laden email, the email is quarantined but there is no notification. It's as if the non-existence of "recips" in the --notify switch overrides the existence of "admin." Incidentally, there is no explanation of exactly what setting --notify to admin does, at least in ./configure --help. I assumed that it meant admin was notified of all virii, since nlmadm is everything minus mailing lists and nmlvadm is everything minus mailing lists and viruses detected by external scanner. Am I wrong in that assumption? I guess my basic question is why isn't the admin address notified when the same address is the recipient of a virus-laden email?
