I am using FC3 and my AV is disabled
I will try that command you recommended tonight. I just waxed the box to get email up for this office.
Fresh attempt on the Qmail scanner this evening.
Question,

Last night, I back tracked to the official qmail scanner web site and preformed the installation to there specs.

note: I had push the soft limits so high I was running into a memory problem. Set it back to normal and the following behaviors began "even with normal soft limit settings.

I could now run the ./test-install script for qmail scanner successfully and login successfully via telnet 110 and 143 but,,,,,
Outlook was now telling that the server memory was to low, and my maillog file was giving the error of

cannot create /var/spool/qmailscan/tmp - Permission denied
and
cannot create /var/spool/qmailscan/archives - Permission denied

Directories were present, and permissions were set correctly. Tried chmod -R 777 as well.

Would you recommend me performing the Scanner install from the QMail Scanner site versus QMail Rocks?

Next attempt is this evening. Waxed the drive, installed Fedora Core 3 with no firewall and disabled SELinux upon install. Flawless install of QMail Rocks so far, and we are sending and receiving normally now. We will see if it last!
