Dear all, I've just released version 0.1 of TrashGuardian. TrashGuardian supersedes SpamGuardian, handling not just spam, but also virus messages.
TrashGuardian watches Qmail-Scanner's syslog output. It maintains state tables of viruses, hosts responsible for sending them, and hosts sending in spam. It performs simple trend analysis on this data, sending alerts and/or running custom scripts when a) new virus / virushost / spamhost is detected, b) when the number of any virus raises rapidly or c) when any single virus- or spamhost shows significant excellence in sending in garbage. TrashGuardian has separate settings for viruses, virushosts and spamhosts. You can, for example, make TrashGuardian add spam- or virus spawning hosts to your firewall's blocklist. Or, even better, make it redirect all incoming mail from spamhosts to spamd tarpit, making the evil guys waste mighty amounts of time. It would not be difficult to create custom scripts to send automatic reports to spammer's ISP. (BTW, I would appreciate if you would send me your TrashGuardian scripts! I'd be glad to include some useful scripts in the next release of TrashGuardian.) TrashGuardian is a sum of sums combining two programs: SpamGuardian and VirusGuardian. The code is not nearly as compact as it could be - some might say it looks awful. However, it does seem to work pretty well, at least for me. Next release will probably consist of bugfixes and code optimization. Get it here: http://www.turvamies.fi/qs-patches/ Please report any bugs you might find!
