A fair while back, .53ish i think, I tried clamd daemonized on a reasonably large scale server (300,000 message per day). It would last about half a day before crashing. As for .70 currently I'm only running it daemonized with daemontools on a few small scale servers and have had no issues with it there. I'll be taking my production virusscanning boxes to clamd w/ daemontools soon I think. I've heard some good things about using monit with clamd. Here's two good mailing list archive
I've run clam since the pre 0.50 release on a 500K per messages per day server under FreeBSD and Slackware Linux and I've never had it crash.
I've had freshclam crash on more than a few occasions but I've never seen a major memory leak or crashing running under daemontools with clamd itself.
I've got clamd running on approx 20 different servers with no problem due to crashing, although we are running freshclam under cron because of the crashes to freshclam.
Just my $0.02.
