Which is the reason why a competent sysadmin will do a "tar -czvf /home/backups/var.spool.qmailscan.<date>.tgz /var/spool/qmailscan" prior to upgrading software, changing software, reinstalling software, deleting software, changing a software configuration file, etc...

No, it didn't matter. I'm only playing around with the archiving options at the moment. It's no great loss.
