I tried that but I get an error about /home/backups/ does not exist... or in other words, sjeez why so harsh..
Sure you are right, but then again it's merely the report of bugish behavior.

Which is the reason why a competent sysadmin will do a "tar -czvf
/home/backups/var.spool.qmailscan.<date>.tgz /var/spool/qmailscan" prior to
upgrading software, changing software, reinstalling software, deleting
