OK - this looks like another case of a vendor changing the format of how its
product reports version information, leading to Qmail-Scanner adding huge
chunks of data as headers.

Can someone who uses this product work out for me how we can grab the
version details only for this scanner - what is commonly wanted is the likes
of:

version-number/pattern-file-number

something along those lines is common amongst AV scanners.
