do a "grep QMAILQUEUE /var/qmail/bin/*" and watch what happens...
some binaries _should_ match.

The variable gets set within the test-script.
Have you checked /var/spool/qmailscanner/qmail-queue.log?
If it did _something_ you can find it here... what do your maillogs say?

Should not give any xtra problems AFAIK.

I can not really help you further; I've had the same problems as you have 
and solved those, but now I'm stuck with a new one.
If I get that one solved, I'll see if I can come up with some new ideas 
but since I'm going on Holiday tomorrow, this may take a week or two.
