As suggested by Jason Haar in his FAQ, I have tried to run 2 instances of smtpd one on port 25 and the other on port 26 so that I can run Q-S on port 26 to improve the perception of quick response time for people on port 25.
For port 25, qmail was installed in the standard /var/qmail location. I Adjusted conf-qmail and installed the 2nd instance in /var/qmail2 ** here I used the same set of qmail users (qmaill, qmaild etc) and groups. I have a feeling I may need to use a different set of users and group *** Hopefully someone can confirm this. so at port 25 (using tcpserver to run /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd at port 25), I re-direct e-mails to port 26 (using tcpserver to run /var/qmail2/bin/qmail-smtpd at port 26) my /var/qmail/control/smtproutes (port 25 version) looks like: abc.com:127.0.0.1:26 ... So far, it is not working. Port 25 seems to accept the e-mails but they are not being delivered and I can find any traces of them. I need to work at it some more but can someone tell me whether I am on the right track ?
