no, you just categorise them (the second half of the email). Make sure you turn on the Layer styling panel <https://docs.qgis.org/3.40/en/docs/user_manual/introduction/general_tools.html#layer-styling-panel> . QGIS allows you to turn them on and off as required (just tick them).
