There are two (sets of) patches to the general code beyond the IPMI device addition.
One set adds an option to qemu-char net devices to automatically try to reconnect if the connection disconnects. This lets the IPMI device connect to a remote BMC and recover if that BMC fails. The other set allows SMBIOS table entries to be added to the tables by drivers. -corey
