Great. What I recall happens is that the Windows 2000 APM driver calls the APM bios function 0x0B (Get PM Event) every second and, should the APM bios be aware of an event (such as that the power button has been pressed) it signals this in the return value of the function. Thereafter, the Windows 2000 APM driver is expected to call the APM bios again to determine the details of the event and thereafter, if it can, respond to it by e.g. shutting the OS down, entering standby or suspend state, as appropriate. At a rough guess, we're talking about having the APM bios signal PM event 0x06 (Power Status Change Notification).
