I tested current master against a file marked with
{{NowCommons|ThisFileDefinitelyDoesNotExist12345.png}} on
testwiki(https://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Screenshot_2026-06-28_113132.png).
The referenced Commons file did not exist. The script logged:
python pwb.py nowcommons -simulate
Retrieving 1 pages from wikipedia:test.

No page is using "Screenshot 2026-06-28 113132.png" anymore.
ERROR: Page [[commons:File:ThisFileDefinitelyDoesNotExist12345.png]]

and terminated successfully without crashing. I could not reproduce the issue
described in the task on the current version.
