I've tried to build python-glanceclient with python-requests 2.7.0 and version 1.12 of python-urllib3, and it just broke (ie: FTBFS). Building python-glanceclient with version 1.11-2 of urllib3 worked, and also, upgrading python-requests to 2.8.1 worked as well. As you must know (because upstream got in touch with you), urllib3 and requests are very tighly coupled, and you cannot upgrade one without upgrading the other. The way forward with this, IMO, is to upgrade requests to 2.8.1.
