tuples are of latin origin, so one can derive the tuple words systematically: Latin n-tuple --------------------------- ... ... triplex triple duplex duple simplex simple I wouldn't mind calling (1,) a simple but I'm not a native English speaker so I have no idea wether it sounds ridiculous to English ears.
