Ohh.. this is new to me! https://docs.python.org/2/library/tarfile.html https://docs.python.org/2/library/zipfile.html What is missing in the documentation: Is the tar/zip file generation done in memory or will it be written directly to disk? My program creates zip or tar files up to TB size. This cannot be done in memory. -- Ullrich Horlacher Server und Virtualisierung Rechenzentrum IZUS/TIK E-Mail: horlac...@tik.uni-stuttgart.de Universitaet Stuttgart Tel: ++49-711-68565868 Allmandring 30a Fax: ++49-711-682357 70550 Stuttgart (Germany) WWW: http://www.tik.uni-stuttgart.de/ -- https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
