<VivaLaFrance> If you wanna know why the Renault Dauphine requires the driver to pull down on the rearview mirror in order to shift into reverse you simply need to open the hood and remove the engine and disassemble the transmission and you will see that it has no way of distinguishing a shift into third from a shift into reverse without a rearview mirror pull. But these days most people just open the glove compartment when shifting into reverse which works just as well! </VivaLaFrance>
